Turkey is located on the Anatolian peninsula, which is projected in the Mediterranean from Asia, separating it from the Black Sea and creating the Aegean Sea to the south. It also has a small European part in Thrace, divided from Asia by the Bosphorus Strait, the Marmara Sea and the Dardanelles Strait. The area of the Turkish territory is 814,578 square kilometers, of which 790,140 correspond to Anatolia and 24,438 square kilometers to Thrace. It also has 8,333 kilometers of coastline.

Anatolia is a high plateau with more than 15 rivers, including the Tigris and Euphrates, which are born there. In the north, the eastern mountains of the Black Sea (Cordillera del Ponto) run along the entire coast, while in the south lies the Taurus Mountain Range. In the east is the volcanic conical of the biblical Mount Ararat (5,165 meters), highest point of the country.

Its borders are 2,753 kilometers, limiting in the north with Bulgaria and the Black Sea; to the south with Iraq and Syria; to the east with the Republic of Georgia, the Republic of Armenia and Iran and to the west with Greece and the Aegean Sea.

The current population is estimated at 83,000,000 inhabitants. The largest cities are Istanbul, Ankara (its capital), Izmir, Adana, and Bursa.
