1. English language teaching

• Through the "Inglés Abre Puertas" Program of the Ministry of Education of Chile, the universities of Santo Tomas of Chile (UST) and Saint Paul Manila, Philippines, subscribed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which allowed for the first time to implement an improvement course in the English language of 5 months for 15 Chilean pedagogy students in that language belonging to the UST, between July and November 2008. 

2. Geothermal 

• Under the auspices of the Philippine company Energy Development Corporation EDC, the "Academic Seminar on Geothermal Engineering" is held for the first time in its offices, directed to a delegation of 8 Chilean professionals from the Universities of Chile, University of Santiago, Universidad Católica de Valparaíso, Centro de Energía Renovables CER, and the Chilean company Energía Andina. 

• Despite the obstacles posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in the world, the EDC indicated that it will continue with its investment plans in Chile.

3. Diplomatic Academy

• There is a MOU between the Diplomatic Academy of Chile and the Institute of Foreign Service of the Philippines, signed on November 20, 1995. Three students from the Philippines have attended the Chilean Diplomatic Academy in 1984, 1991 and 2002. 

4. Policemen

• In terms of scholarships, it is important to note that in 2006 a police officer from the Philippines obtained a scholarship granted by the Chilean Carabineros

5. Mining

• Starting with the 1999 bilateral Mining Cooperation Agreement, the Philippines, through the Bureau of Mines and Geoscience, presented in March 2011 a draft proposal for the implementation of the Agreement to the Chilean Ministry of Mining, consisting of 13 cooperation initiatives bilateral. 

• Between April 22 and 26, 2019, a Philippine delegation from the Ministry of Finance visited Chile in order to learn about the Chilean tax reform, particularly in relation to the tax system that affects the mining industry. 

6. Double Taxation Agreement

• Negotiations are currently underway to reach an Agreement on Double Taxation.

7. Tourism promotion

• There is the will to advance in the negotiations of a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of tourism.

8. Agricultural Cooperation

• Chile and the Philippines currently have a MOU on Agriculture (2001), which is expected to be updated.

• During 2018 and 2019, the Embassy of Chile in the Philippines has carried out, together with FAO Philippines, various meetings and discussions with the authorities of the Department of Agriculture of the Philippines to promote a cooperation project related to quinoa.

• In this regard, in October 2019, a workshop was held with the participation of two professors from the Kasetsart University of Thailand, who were in charge of the feasibility studies to introduce quinoa in the province of Changmai, in the north of that country. Presentations of the work done in Thailand were shared with senior officials from the Philippine Department of Agriculture, ASEAN ambassadors and representatives from the private sector. A visit was also made by the Thai researchers to the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), a public institution that has an academic profile related to research and development in the agricultural area. The technical evaluation process on the introduction of quinoa crops in the Philippines is expected to begin.

9. Pork and poultry meat 

• After several years of negotiations, and after certain technical visits made by Philippine inspectors of the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) between February and March 2019 and the National Meat Inspection Service between September and October 2019 to our country, the Philippines has decided to accredit certain Chilean pork and poultry meat production establishments for importation.
