Objectives and Functions of the Embassy

The objectives of the embassy of Chile are:

  • Representing the State of Chile to the Receiving country.
  • Strengthening the bilateral relation between the two States.

To meet these objectives the Embassy carries out functions such as: Protecting the interests of the State of Chile and its nationals, under the rules contained in International Law applicable to the matter. Negotiating, under the instructions of the Supreme Government, with the authorities of the Receiving State, in all those matters that contribute to achieving the targets set for this country. Reporting to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other public institutions upon request, on the political and economic situation and its evolution. To fulfill this role the Embassy has an extensive network of contacts in various fields.

The embassy also develops economic and commercial activities in order to increase trade and investment between the two countries, systematically works to further the knowledge of Chile and promotes tourism to the country, along with supporting the dissemination and promotion of Chilean culture in the Receiving State.

Other functions of the Embassy of Chile are promoting high-level visits from authorities, national experts and personalities significant to the bilateral relationship and interests of Chile and enhancing the bilateral relation in matters of defense, which the Embassy develops through the active participation of its Attachés.
