The Embassy of Chile in Georgetown, Guyana on March 9, 2016 hosted its first wine tasting event at the Pegasus Hotel Guyana. Present were members of the Diplomatic Corps, government officials, entrepreneurs, food and beverage managers of different local hotels and supermarkets, among other special invitees.

The event focused on the promotion of Chilean wines in Guyana where eight different wines were served as an introduction of wines of that country.

The collections of wines consisted of Concha y Toro - Frontera Blush, Concha y Toro Frontera - Chardonnay, Concha y Toro - Trio Merlot, Luis Felipe Edward -Gran Reserve Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon, Castillo de Molina - Shiraz, Castillo de Molina - Carmenere and Concha y Toro - Sparkling Wine Brut.

Organized by Chile’s first resident Ambassador to Guyana Claudio Rojas Rachel, guests were given the opportunity to sample some of the best collections of Chilean wines that are available in Guyana.

Ambassador Rojas introduced each of the wines and gave a brief description of the winery, wine maker, and valley where they were produced. Additionally, each wine was paired with a special accompanying dish to better illustrate their diversity and ability to enhance certain foods.

During the event, guests were given the opportunity to offer their own personal feedback on the experience.

Chile is a major exporter of some of the world best wines and is looking forward to engaging the Guyana population into the cultural experience of its wines. Several videos and posters were shown to promote the way of life of the Chilean people.

All of the Chilean wines tasted are already available at some supermarkets in Guyana, with the main distributor being Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL/DSL).

Guyanese are encouraged to engage in the experience of consuming Chilean wines which is ‘a taste to remember.’

It is hoped that the wine tasting event could be heralded as the beginning of deeper trade relations between Chile and Guyana, where more distributors are being encouraged to get on board in this and other ventures.[:]
