The Rotaract Club of Georgetown (RCG) under its Community Service Arm on Saturday December 10, 2016 hosted a project titled “Christmas Cheer” at the Indian Monument Garden catering to 124 children drawn from their Sophia Literacy Programme (SLP) and 7 orphanages in and around Georgetown, Greater Georgetown, Linden and the East Coast of Demerara.

The project sought to share the spirit of joy, peace and goodwill of the Christmas Season in a grand Christmas party for children ages 2yrs – 18 yrs of Cornelia Ida Children’s Home, Bless the Children Home, A Sanctuary Children’s Home, Joshua House, Saheed Boys Orphanage, Saheed Girls Orphange and Hararuni Girls Home and the Club’s aforementioned ongoing Sophia Literacy Programme. The Literacy Programme offers free tutoring by trained teachers to the children of the Sophia community to improve their literacy skills.

The children were treated to a fun filled afternoon of games, drama from the Guyana National Drama Company, gifts and a lot of other goodies including snacks and refreshments.

The club’s “Christmas Cheer” project was the first of its kind executed by the Rotaract Club of Georgetown and it was truly heartwarming to see the overwhelming support that the event received and how the children truly enjoyed themselves.
