Carmen Berenguer (1942 - 2024)
Nacida en Santiago, es una de las grandes exponentes de la poesía chilena moderna y una de las figuras femeninas prominentes en este arte a nivel latinoamericano. A lo largo de su carrera, también se dedicó a la realización de crónicas, piezas visuales y a la edición de revistas. Saltó a la notoriedad en la década de los ochenta, como una de las voces disruptoras en el contexto de dictadura en Chile, destacándose por un estilo fragmentario y transgresor. Algunos de sus textos emblemáticos son Bobby Sands desfallece en el muro (1983), Huellas de siglo (1986) y A media asta (1988). En 2020, publicó Plaza de la Dignidad, un recuento del Estallido Social de 2019, el cual presenció desde su departamento aledaño a Plaza Baquedano.
Algunos de los principales premios que se le otorgaron fueron el Premio Regional de las Culturas de Valparaíso y el Premio al Patrimonio Literario y Cultural de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Santiago, además de haber sido nominada en dos ocasiones al Premio Nacional de Literatura. En 2008, fue galardonada con el Premio Iberoamericano de Poesía Pablo Neruda, siendo la primera poeta chilena en ser distinguida con este importante premio que entrega el Ministerio de las Culturas, las Artes y el Patrimonio.
Born in Santiago, she is one of the greatest exponents of modern Chilean poetry and one of the prominent female figures in this art form in Latin America. Throughout her career, she also dedicated herself to writing chronicles, visual pieces, and editing magazines. She rose to prominence in the 1980s as one of the disruptive voices in the context of the dictatorship in Chile, standing out for her fragmentary and transgressive style. Some of her emblematic texts are Bobby Sands desfallece en el muro (1983), Huellas de siglo (1986), and A media asta (1988). In 2020, she published Plaza de la Dignidad, an account of the 2019 Social Outbreak, which she witnessed from her apartment adjacent to Plaza Baquedano.
Some of her major awards include the Valparaíso Regional Prize for Culture and the Literary and Cultural Heritage Award at the Santiago International Book Fair. She has also been nominated twice for the National Literature Prize. In 2008, she was awarded the Pablo Neruda Ibero-American Poetry Prize, becoming the first Chilean poet to receive this important award presented by the Ministry of Culture, Arts, and Heritage.
